This course is aimed at individuals looking to gain entry into the fitness industry for employment as a studio/class instructor.

Theory sessions -
Every Monday, 6.15pm - 8:15pm
Practical sessions -
5 x Sundays 12pm - 6pm (27th Jan, 10th & 24th Feb, 10th & 24th March)
Practical Assessment -
Sunday 7th April
To train candidates to a professionally competent level, enabling them to design and instruct safe and effective group exercise based in a studio environment.
Unit 1 – Anatomy and physiology for exercise
Unit 2 – Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
Unit 3 – Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
Unit 4 – Principles of exercise, fitness and health
Unit 5 – Planning group exercise to music session
Unit 6 – Instructing group exercise to music
Some experience of attending studio based exercise to music classes.
The course requires some physical exertion and individual participation is essential.
Candidates should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2.
Candidates should be 17 years or over or be in full time education studying a related qualification at ‘A’ level or equivalent.
The Active IQ Certificate in Fitness Instructing is a vocationally related qualification (VRQ), at level 2 on the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF). It provides access on to The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 2 and is a pre-requisite for the Award for Nutrition in Physical Activity (level 3).
